A 5-minute typing test measures how fast and accurately you type over a longer, steady stretch instead of a short burst. It is a good way to check your real, sustainable typing speed rather than your peak speed.
Your speed is shown in words per minute (WPM), where one word equals five characters. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly, and CPM is characters per minute.
For most people, 40 WPM is a solid baseline, 60 WPM is strong, and 80+ WPM is fast. Keeping accuracy above 95% matters as much as raw speed.
Longer tests show your sustainable speed and stamina, which is closer to real typing at work or study than a 15 or 30 second burst.
